Peter Dowd has been the Labour Member of Parliament for Bootle since 2015. He worked within local government and the NHS for almost 40 years.

Prior to his election to Parliament, he was Leader of Sefton Council, Merseyside, where he had held a range of executive portfolios. He had a wide ranging brief including both revenue and capital budgetary oversight and external relations at sub regional, regional and national level.

As a former chair of a Health Care Trust, Chair of Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and a member of Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Board and Combined Authority, Peter has significant experience in cross service and organisational co-operation and dynamics within public/private partnerships.

He is currently a member of Labour’s Shadow Cabinet and the Shadow Treasury Team undertaking the role of Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury within it.
